Odisha’s Aswath Narayana has won a gold medal for India at the 45th World Skills competition being held in Russia. Narayana was part of the 48-member team representing India in the competition.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated Aswatha, a student of the city-based C V Raman College of Engineering for bagging the gold medal in water technology in the World Skills competition on Tuesday and said the state is proud of him.


“Congratulate #SkilledInOdisha youth, Aswath Narayan on winning India’s first-ever gold medal at @WorldSkills 2019 for showcasing stellar skill in water technology. #Odisha is proud of you,” Patnaik tweeted.

The Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said the Indian team created history by winning one gold, one silver and two bronze medals at the competition. India has won 4 medals, one gold in Water Technology, one silver in Web Technology and two bronze medals in Jewellery and Graphic Design Technology.

“Since water is the world’s most critical resource, the importance of this occupation and quality of those fulfilling it, is second to none,” Narayan said.

India is among 63 countries participating in the world’s biggest international vocational skill competition. Odisha Skill Development Authority (OSDA) Chairman Subroto Bagchi also thanked all institutions behind Odisha’s success and sought greater success in World Skill Competition to be held in Shanghai in 2021.
