HAPPY DOCTORS DAY

1st of July is observed as National Doctors Day to honor the physician and West Bengal’s former Chief Minister Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy for his remarkable contributions. The Doctor’s Day was initiated in India in the year 1991. National Doctor’s Day 2019 is meant to raise awareness about the importance of doctors and the crucial role they play in our day to day lives. The theme of this year focuses on ‘zero tolerance towards violence against doctors’.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, congratulated doctors and paid tribute to Dr. BC Roy.

“On Doctor’s day, I congratulate all hardworking doctors for their round the clock efforts to make our society fit and healthy. No words can do justice to their monumental contribution to public welfare. I also pay tributes to Dr. BC Roy, a distinguished doctor himself”, the Prime Minister tweeted.

The attack on a resident doctor in Kolkata recently has prompted the city doctors to take certain measures. Fearing the attacks the city doctors are now recording the patients consent through audio-visual method before starting any treatment.

“Doctors are not Gods. They try to protect lives with the help of their knowledge and potential but it’s impossible to assure to save every life they treat for some things  are beyond their control and people must understand the same”, says Abhisek Mishra, student at SCB medical college, Odisha.

Free medical check-up camps are organized at various health care centers and public places by the health care organizations to promote quality medical services free of cost among public. Rotational medical services by the doctors are also promoted. Various discussion programs are organised across the country to make people aware about health check-up, prevention, diagnosis, proper treatment of the disease etc.

The life of a doctor has always fascinated people. Thus, TV shows and movies come-up with doctor-centric stories. One such show was ‘Sanjivani’, that had a humongous fan following. Makers of ‘Sanjivani 2’ marked the National Doctor’s Day with the first look of the show.

Producer Siddharth P. Malhotra shared the look on Twitter and wrote: ‘It’s National Doctors Day, so ‘Sanjivani 2’ ka first look banta hai. Presenting Dr Ishaani (Surbhi Chandna), Dr Sid (Namit Khanna), Dr Anjali (Sayantani Ghosh), the original pillars Dr Juhi (Gurdip Kohli) and my favourite always Dr Shashank (Mohnish Bahl).”

Ayushman Bharat Yojana or National Health Protection Scheme aims at making interventions in primary, secondary and tertiary care systems, covering both preventive and promotive health in order to address health care holistically. Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY), another flagship programme of the Odisha government launched as an antidote to the Central government’s Ayushman Bharat has received an allocation of Rs 1203 crore.

Doctors save lives, but their contribution is even beyond that. They look after the happiness and comfort of an individual and teach the ways to lead a better life. Hence, their labour should not be taken for granted and people must acknowledge them for their services.
