Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Dhenkanal is all set to organise Odia Journalism Day tomorrow, August 04 with an online pane discussion. IIMC Dhenkanal has been observing the Odia Journalism Day for past several years but owing to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic situation in the state, the institute has decided not to conduct any gatherings in the campus to commemorate the event, informed IIMC Regional director Mrinal Chatterjee.

The event is observed to mark the publication of the first Odia language newspaper ‘Utkal Dipika’ on August 04, 1866 which had been in circulation for 70 long years. It’s founder and editor, Gaurishankar Ray, was a man of vision and immensely contributed in the Indian freedom struggle.

The theme of the panel discussion is ‘Odia Journalism: Status, Trend and Future’. Panellists include Sandeep Sahu, senior journalist and columnist; Prasanna Mohanty, Executive Editor at Sarbasadharana; Babhita Swain, Deputy Editor, OTV; Pratyush Saa, senior journalist. Academicians like Sujit Mohanty, Asst. Prof, Central University of Odisha and Dr. Jyoti Prakash Mohapatra, Asst.Prof, IIMC Dhenkanal will also grace the event. The panel discussion will be followed by a questionnaire round where audiences’ queries on the topic will be answered.
