Within a time span of just two days, India registered a lakh cases of Covid-19. On Wednesday, the country crossed the 15 lakhs mark with 48,513 fresh cases in a single day. 9,88,029 people have recovered from the deadly virus. This is the seventh consecutive day that the country added more than 45,000 fresh cases a single day.

The total cases jumped to 15,31,669, while death toll rose to 34,193 with 768 deaths in a 24-hours. Presently, there are 5,09,447 active cases of coronavirus in the country. On a positive note, the recovery rate saw a rise of 64.51%. A cumulative total of 1,77,43,740 samples have been tested up to July 28 with 4,08,855 samples being tested on Tuesday.

Maharastra remained the worst-hit state with 3,83,723 cases. It is followed by Tamil Nadu (2,20,716), Delhi (1,32,275) and Karnataka (1,01,465). With 1,056 new Covid-19 cases and 28 deaths in the last 24 hours, Delhi coronavirus tally rose to 1,32,275 while the death toll slated to 3,881.
