India crossed the 50,000-mark of daily cases with the highest single day spike in COVID-19 cases on Thursday. The total cases now stand at 15,83,792, while 10 lakh have recovered. On Thursday the nation recorded 52,123 fresh cases of COVID-19 while the death-toll rose to 34,968 with 775 deaths within 24 hours.

This takes the total active cases in the country to 5,28,242. The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients has slightly gone over 64.44%. As per the official data issued by ICMR, the number of tests for detection of COVID-19 has crossed the 18-million mark in the country. A total of 1,81,90,382 samples have been tested up to July 29 with 4,46,642 samples being tested on Wednesday.

Of the 775 fresh deaths reported, Maharashtra tops the list with 298 deaths followed by Karnataka (92), Tamil Nadu (82), Andhra Pradesh (65), West Bengal (41), Uttar Pradesh (33), Delhi (26), Punjab (25), Gujarat (24), Jammu and Kashmir (15), Madhya Pradesh (13), Bihar and Jharkhand reported 9 deaths each, 7 from Haryana, 6 from Rajasthan, 5 from Odisha, 4 from Assam, 3 from Goa, 2 each from Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh and 1 each from Kerala and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
