On the occasion of World Environment Day 2020, UNICEF India is supporting the global efforts to raise awareness towards collective action, #ForNature. By 2040, almost 600 million children are projected to be living in areas of extreme water conditions. India had the highest number of fatalities and the second highest monetary losses due to climate change in 2018. This underlines the importance of bringing more advocates to the fore to call for collective change especially for and by children and adolescents.
UNICEF India has developed a fun and informative U-report assessment to raise the profile of climate issues and inform the strategic conversation around climate change. It is offered in 11 languages, has questions encouraging girls’ participation, and comes with an Earth Champion certificate upon completion.

The top participants of the quiz, the children most passionate about climate, will be invited for an online workshop with UNICEF India to identify actions that can be promoted in the lead up to World Children’s Day this year which also has the theme of Climate Change.
The quiz will allow UNICEF to assess a baseline of understanding and awareness around the topic of climate change, state by state and by gender; and support UNICEF and its partners in informing its own future advocacy and technical assistance efforts. A report on the findings will be prepared and shared in July for public discourse.
We all must come together for a collective effort to save the earth because we do not have a second home. The next generation holds the key for advocacy and action because they will be future decision makers.
