COVID-19 Hospitals Become Operational in Balangir, Phulbani & Mayurbhanj

COVID-19 hospitals are coming up throughout Odisha after a forward looking initiative of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in this regard. Two COVID-19 hospitals, managed by KIMS, Bhubaneswar and financed by Govt of Odisha, have become operational in Balangir and Kandhamal districts from April 14, 2020, and one in Mayurbhanj district from April 15, 2020.

The COVID-19 Hospital in Kandhamal has 150 isolation beds, while in Mayurbhanj and Balangir the Hospitals have 200 isolation beds each. Both Balangir and Mayurbhanj COVID-19 Hospitals are functioning from the mega campuses of KISS inaugurated recently in these two districts. Earlier, two ultramodern dispensaries were built inside these two campuses of KISS.

A 10-bedded ICU in Phulbani COVID Hospital is in progress, while work on 20-bedded ICU in Balangir and Mayurbhanj each will be completed within a week. KIMS, Bhubaneswar has taken the responsibility of operation of these hospitals with the support of respective district administrations.

About 60 employees, including doctors, nurses, pharmacists, biomedical engineers, electrical engineers and house-keeping staff of KIMS have joined these hospitals. Three teams have been formed of doctors and medical workers in each district with support of the concerned district administrations. The teams will work there and manage the hospitals. These Covid hospitals will be managed under the direct supervision of Dr. Subrat Acharya, Pro-Chancellor of KIIT Deemed to be University and guidance of Dr. Bishnu Prasad Panigrahi, CEO, KIMS, while Dillip Kumar Panda, Registrar, KIMS has been appointed as nodal officer for these hospitals.

All modern facilities are available in these hospitals in addition to Hi-end ambulance, two innova cars and 24×7 power backup facilities. Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS thanked Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik and Govt of Odisha for giving KIMS the opportunity to operate these three Covid-19 hospitals in three tribal dominated districts of Odisha. Dr. Samanta also encouraged the doctors and other medical staff of KIMS who have joined these Covid hospitals and wished them success to fight the pandemic.
