Good News for Self Help Groups, Start-Ups, which are scripting success in Odisha.With the success of Self Help Groups in Odisha, Government of India has decided to talk to them in order to bring them within the fold of the Government e-Marketplace (GeM).

As GeM is expanding its canopy, it has been decided to talk to leading SHGs in Odisha and take them on board in national public procurement portal.

GeM, which is offering end to end solutions for all procurement requirements of both State and Union Government has proposed to interact with SHGs, which are producing various products.

Similarly, Start-Ups, which are also scaling up their business coverage with varieties of products and services will also be roped in by GeM.

Apart from SHGs and Start-Ups, GeM will also interact with artisans, craft persons, MSMEs, which constitute local seller ecosystem to take them on board and make local products available on national market places, local producers are producing unique products and providing newer services, which are not available with GeM.

Taking this into account the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry has decided to start interaction with SHGs, Start-Ups, Artisans, Craft Persons, and MSME Sector to take them on board to widen their coverage in the national market.

The Union Minister for Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal has advised the GeM authorities to increase its offerings and try to cater to the growing needs of the buyer’s specific requirements of products and services.

Accordingly, GeM Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Talleen Kumar has decided to talk to SHGs, Start Ups and other local sellers for their niche products and to take the procurement to the next level.While this will be mutually beneficial for both local sellers and GeM as more products and services will be available in the national public procurement portal, the small players will get exposed to national market place, said the officer.

Sellers from the local level will not only get national exposure, for which they are striving hard but also there will be hardly any expenditure for marketing their products. Since last three years, GeM has been operating and has transformed public procurement in the country by leveraging technology and making procurement contactless, paperless, and cashless, said Kumar CEO, GeM.

During the last three years, GeM has done transactions over Rs.40,000 crores with more than 40,000 buyer organizations in its fold. GeM talks with local seller ecosystem, ‘GeM Samvad’ in coming months will be much more beneficial for the State, which is helping its SHGs, Start Ups, Artisans, and Craft Persons to increase volume of their transactions.
