Odisha has the potential to become one of the largest plastics clusters in the country once of Indian Oil’s polypropylene facility at Paradip and the Paradip Plastic Park commences production, said Plastics Export Promotion Council (PLEXCONCIL) ED Sribatsh Dasmohapatra. He said this at an export awareness seminar organised by PLEXCONCIL and State Government’s Directorate of Export Promotion Council here recently. The seminar was organized to contact the manufacturers of plastic products in Odisha and inform them about the potential that lies in exports of their products in terms of the focus countries and the target products.

According to Dasmohapatra, PLEXCONCIL has been working closely with the Ministry of Commerce, which has at its disposal, numerous schemes and incentives to help our exporters in their outreach to global markets. Schemes such as MAI, MEIS, Duty Drawback, and many more, have been specially designed to facilitate exports and facilitate the path for our exporters to compete in the international arena.

PLEXCONCIL outlined the various subsidies provided by the Odisha and Government of India for exporters and the simple process of enrolling for PLEXCONCIL memberships and seek various benefits provided by the Government for the exporters. It also explained the various services offered by CIPET for the Plastic Industry there.

Speaking on the occasion, PLEXCONCIL Regional Chairman Prasan Lohia said, “As it is becoming more and more essential for the companies to look at the international markets to survive in the long run, the sole objective of this seminar is to create awareness on the importance of exports in the future and also encourage non-exporters in the plastic sector to have a wider vision and enter the highly challenging but rewarding world of export trade.”

The plastics industry in India today is a major contributor to the country’s economic development and its application has diversified to include a variety of key segments such as automotive, construction, electronics, healthcare, textiles, FMCG and more. India’s merchandise exports in 2018-19 were USD 331 billion, out of which Plastics exports was USD 10.89 billion. Globally plastics are a 1 trillion dollar economy and this is just enough to demonstrate the vast potential that the segment holds.
