The Odisha Congress is yet to find out the reasons for its debacle in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Consequently, it has set out on a mission to discover the cause. As decided by the party on Saturday, Panels will be formed to probe in-depth the reasons behind the defeat of its candidates.

The age-old party slithered to a distant third position in the state with winning only nine Assembly seats one seat in the Lok Sabha.

Several leaders of state unit of the party attended a meeting at Congress Bhawan. Six sub-committees have been formed to analyze the poll performance. Each sub-committee will have five members.

According to a senior party leader who attended the meeting, the committee members will visit all the thirty districts to talk to people and interact with local leaders to know what went wrong in the elections.

“The sub-committees will submit their report to the fact finding committee. After examining the reports of the sub-committees, the fact finding committee will submit its report to the All India Congress Committee by the end of June,” said party veteran and Balangir MLA Narasingha Mishra.

The apex committee, besides probing the reasons for the rout of the Congress candidates, will explore ways to strengthen the party organization.

Even as senior leaders continued to target each other for the party’s worst-ever election performance in Odisha, the 20-member committee will assess the situation with the view to reviving the party by 2024. The committee will finalize its report by June-end after taking into account the reports submitted by the sub-committees. Mishra said remedial measures will be initiated for the revival of Congress in Odisha basing on the report and after discussions held at the party level.
